Dr. M. Priyamvadha

Dr. M. Priyamvadha is currently working as Professor in the Department of Criminology, and former Head of the Department of Women’s Studies, University of Madras. She was also the former member of the Academic Council and the Senate which are the decision-making bodies of both academic and administrative affairs of the University of Madras. She is the recipient of Srimathi Devkunvar Nanalal Bhatt Memorial Gold Medal for her proficiency in Under Graduate Subjects in 1998, “Achiever’s Award” in 2014 from the same college and the “Fellowship Award” from the Indian Society of Victimology in 2014 and Indian Society of Criminology in 2018. She was the former General Secretary of a professional and academic body called The Indian Society of Victimology. She has written many research articles in peer-reviewed journals on the rights of children, women and aged people. She was awarded with a gold medal for her research study on “Misrepresentation of Women in Media” by the Indian Society of Criminology. Dr. Priyamvadha has undertaken research projects on diverse issues of criminology, funded by various government agencies such as University Grants Commission, Indian Council of Social Science Research, and National Commission for
Women, Bureau of Police Research and Development, Government of India etc. Apart from teaching and research, she is closely associated with the Academy of Prisons and Correctional Administration, Police Training College, Tamil Nadu Police Academy, Tamil Nadu State Judicial Academy, Bureau of Police Research and Development, State and National Commission for Women and National and State Human Rights Commission.
